Clary is Named S.C. Economic Ambassador for Bamberg County
The Bamberg County Economic Development Commission has announced that Bob Clary has been named “2009 S.C. Economic Ambassador of the Year” for Bamberg County.
The announcement was made at SouthernCarolina Alliance’s Regional Industry Appreciation Awards Dinner at Sweetwater Country Club in Barnwell on Thursday, October 8, by SCA’s Bamberg County Economic Development Director Kell Anderson.
“Known throughout the Southern Carolina region of the state for his career in broadcasting, which included his management and ownership of WWBD Radio in Bamberg County, Bob Clary devoted countless hours to the local community promoting both community and economic development projects,” said Anderson. “To this day, he still serves as the ‘voice of the Red Raiders,’ broadcasting Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School athletics.”
Anderson added that Clary laid the groundwork on the planning and funding of Bamberg County’s first speculative building, which will be completed in a few weeks at SouthernCarolina Alliance’s CrossRhodes Industrial Park on Highway 301 in Bamberg.
“As a commissioner on the Bamberg Board of Public Works, Bob worked with the Bamberg community in the pursuit of developing an industrial and economic base to foster greater opportunities for its citizens,” said Anderson. “He also served as Economic Development Director for Bamberg County with SouthernCarolina Alliance. “We are proud to honor Mr. Bob Clary for his service to the people of Bamberg County.”
Members of Bamberg County Council joined Anderson in presenting the award to Clary at the Industry Appreciation dinner: Reverend Isaiah Odom, who also serves as a member of the SouthernCarolina Alliance Board of Directors; Dorothy Tatum, a SouthernCarolina Alliance Advisory Board Member; and Alzena Robinson congratulated Clary as a commemorative certificate was presented.
Clary will be honored at the state level again in January, where he will join S.C. Economic Ambassadors from the other South Carolina counties for a recognition ceremony with the Governor and State Legislature.
